The Turkish media is dripping with bile about the fact that in the past the US military did not sell Ankara US drones, while now the US is being supplied by the company Edge Autonomy with the Penguin drone, which is very similar to the Bayraktar TB2."The Penguin drones are very similar in appearance to the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2, but are significantly smaller than the Bayraktar Penguins," they report.Edge Autonomy, based in San Luis Obispo, California, announced an agreement to manufacture and deliver an undisclosed number of long-endurance Penguin drones for the US military. The Penguin drones are similar in appearance to the well-known Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2.Penguins are significantly smaller and fill different slots while maintaining an equivalent level of stamina.Edge Autonomy, formerly UAV Factory, was founded in Latvia in 2009. In early 2022, the company was renamed after a merger with Jennings Aeronautics. The company, which has offices in Latvia, California and Virginia, makes several Penguin variants, including an electric Penguin BE and a Penguin B VTOL, capable of vertical takeoff and landing.Penguin B is one of the most successful variants of the penguin drone.Since its introduction in 2009, (the Bayraktar TB2 made its maiden flight in August 2014), the Penguin B high-performance, semi-integrated mini-UAV has reportedly been sold to integrated systems companies in more than 40 countries. The company introduced a VTOL upgrade kit for the Penguin B in June 2021. The drone collects real-time intelligence data and transmits it via a digital data link to the Portable Ground Control Station (PGCS).Penguin B has electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) sensors. It can be controlled either manually or autonomously by PGCS.Edge Autonomy Factory of Latvia, designed and produced the PGCS.A single operator can manage the vehicle and its payloads."Penguin B is designed to fit both military and commercial applications with flexibility," the company said.PGCS is simple to set up for autopilot operations.Includes Panasonic 13-inch CF-31 laptop, 17-inch secondary touch screen, state-of-the-art battery power systems, GPS tracking antennas, video receivers, RC transmitter mouse, optional joystick and other auxiliary equipment. The Penguin C long-range UAS is built on the reliable airframe platform of the Penguin B UAS, which has been in use since 2012.The Penguin C UAS also features an electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) sensor payload, enabling it to conduct surveillance, object tracking and intelligence operations. The Penguin C UAS is powered by a 28cc Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) engine, running on 98 octane fuel. The integrated engine cooling system allows operation in sub-zero temperatures and extreme heat.
